Language Ambassadors

Welcome to our Language Learning Page 2023/24!

This page is led by our language ambassadors. Each class from years 2 - 6 have nominated a Language Ambassadors to assist Señora Drage during Spanish lessons. They will also be very busy promoting and celebrating languages around school. You can spot our Language Ambassadors by looking out for their shiny blue badges.

At the start of the year, our Language Ambassadors were set a challenge to find out how many languages are spoken in our school.
Did you know that there are over 22 languages spoken in our school community? It is important that we show respect for each other’s languages and cultures by celebrating and learning more about them.

Language Of the Term 2023/24

At Haydn, we are very lucky to have a number of children who are bilingual and multilingual. For many of these children, their first language is not English. It is very important that we recognise and celebrate the different languages, cultures and traditions of families at Haydn Primary School and around the world.

Over the past year, our children have celebrated this diversity by learning a ‘Language of the Term’ in their classes. They have enjoyed practising new vocabulary through games, songs and competitions.

This year, we would like to get you involved!

Each term, we will introduce a new language. We will then welcome families to connect with their child's teacher to organise a short session linked to that language. It may be that you would like to share photographs about life and culture related to the language, reading a story in the language, or even teaching some simple vocabulary. Alternatively, please speak to Miss Deighton (school language lead) by emailing: e.deighton@haydn.nottingham.sch.uk and she will help organise your visit.

Language of the term 2: (January - Feb 2024)

Our second language of the term is Urdu. We welcome any of our Urdu speaking families to connect with their child’s class teachers to organise a short session linked to Urdu. It may be sharing photographs about life and culture, reading a story in Urdu or even teaching some simple vocabulary.
