NEWSLETTER 1ST MAY 2026 LAUNCHED!
A MESSAGE FROM MS PAULSON
Dear families, we have had another wonderful week in school! We are now in the merry month of May and look forward to the bank holiday weekend ahead. The sun has been shining and the children’s wellbeing has been high as they have enjoyed their learning and their outdoor play. Members of the school council attended Primary Parliament at the Council House on Tuesday. Primary Parliament is a termly opportunity for pupil representatives from city schools to come together and have their voices heard. The theme of the day was Safe, Positive and Smart Communities and the children were amazing at sharing their views and then collaborating with other schools to create a final presentation to an audience.
Next week, the children will be taking part in a whole school project with the theme, ‘One Planet, Many Places’, inspired by the upcoming 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough on 8th May. This celebration will culminate in a live assembly on the day of his birthday next Friday.
Climate Action at Haydn
On Monday, Ms Paulson introduced Haydn’s Climate Action plan and it’s four pillars to the children in assembly and we began by celebrating all of the positive things we are already doing, including our WOW Walk to School initiative. We then talked about the small changes that we can make that will have a positive impact on the environment and our community. Our aim is to empower the children by fostering a connection to nature, increasing their knowledge about sustainability and offer practical, hands-on ways to create a positive impact. The Eco-Team have been busy this week planning our first step, looking at the pillar of Biodiversity and how we can build on our green spaces to encourage more wildlife into the school grounds. All year groups will have a small bed or area in which they will create themed gardens, such as a Butterfly garden, bumblebee garden or a herb garden.
Calling for your help!
We are asking for any parent/family volunteers who would be happy to come along for an hour straight after school next Thursday 7th May, to help to prepare beds for planting. Many hands make light work! Your children are welcome to join you, but you will need to supervise them at all times. We will meet at the main school reception at 3.15pm. If you have a spade or garden fork that you could bring along, that would be very helpful.
Lost Property
As the weather is warming up, the children are shedding their jumpers and cardigans when out in the playground! We have newly appointed Lost Property monitors who are collecting up and sorting items into labelled and unlabelled. All uniform that is labelled will be returned to its owner and the rest will be put into the school’s lost property chest. Many items are unlabelled and we ask parents and carers to make sure they label all clothing including jumpers, cardigans and coats please. We thank you in anticipation.
