NEWSLETTER 7TH NOVEMBER 2025 LAUNCHED!

A MESSAGE FROM MS PAULSON

Dear families, welcome back to all! I hope you all had a lovely break and are ready for a busy half term ahead in the run up to Christmas. This is one of my favourite times of year with many festivals of light and excitement in the air! The children have had an enjoyable week; they have been excited to begin learning new topics and talking about their experiences over the holiday. There has been a buzz around school all week – Haydn really is a lovely place to be!

DIWALI CELEBRATION DAY

We had a wonderful Diwali celebration day today. Children have had the chance to share and learn about the Hindu, Sikh and Jain festival with their friends during the week and today, we came together in a whole school Diwali celebration assembly. Children across school enjoyed a range of themed learning activities, from creating beautiful artwork and Rangoli patterns, to enjoying Diwali music and sharing a special Diwali lunch.

Also, can we say a special thank you to parents who have visited and shared traditions and stories of Diwali with children across school, as well as decorating the dining room ready for our lunch.  It was a delight to see so many children dressed for the occasion and embracing both their own and other cultures and faiths. Well done to Akaaljot and the F2 children for taking part in assembly today.

ANTI-BULLYING WEEK AND ODD SOCKS DAY

Next week is National Anti-Bullying Week with the theme, ‘Power for Good’. Odd Socks Day is taking place on Monday 10th November, with adults and children being encouraged to wear odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique. This fits in nicely with our PSHE Jigsaw theme this half term which we introduced this week in assembly: Celebrating Difference. We will be holding an Anti-Bullying assembly next Monday and will spend the week spreading kindness throughout the school.

INTER-FAITH WEEK

Next week is also Inter-faith week starting on Sunday 9th November. Remembrance Sunday was chosen as a start day to encourage people to remember together the contributions of all faiths (including no faith), and to consider together how best to create a just, peaceful and harmonious world. On Friday we will be having two guest speakers at our assembly, an ex-Haydn parent, Karen Worth who is Jewish and Ferzana Shan who is Muslim. Karen came in last year and they will talking to the children more about the Salaam Shalom Kitchen which is a joint Muslim/Jewish project in Nottingham founded on the belief that working together across communities and perceived boundaries helps build community cohesion and break down barriers. We can’t wait to find out more!

NATIONAL SCHOOL MEALS WEEK 2025 – MONDAY 10TH – FRIDAY 14TH NOVEMBER

To celebrate national school meals week, your child will be bringing home an activity sheet on Monday. The sheet is purely for fun at home and doesn’t need to be handed in once completed.

BBC CHILDREN IN NEED – FRIDAY 14TH NOVEMBER

On Friday 14th November we will be having a non-uniform day at Haydn. Children can wear their own clothes; all we ask is that they wear something spotty. We also ask that the children don’t bring cash to school on this occasion.  Donations can be made on the Arbor app/portal. Please click on ‘School Shop’ to make a payment. Donations can be made from Monday 10th November until Monday 17th November.

MATHS FAMILY STAY & PLAY – MONDAY 17TH NOVEMBER

We would like to invite our children and their families to our next Maths Stay and Play on the 17th November 3.15pm to 4.15pm in the main hall. There will be fun, maths based games, puzzles and activities to enjoy and we hope they will inspire you to have fun with maths at home! Children will need to be supervised by an adult.

PUNCTUALITY AND ATTENDANCE

A reminder to please ensure your child arrives punctually to begin school at 8.45am each day. School finishes at 3.15pm. Teachers begin planning meetings at 3.15pm so please do your best to collect on time. If you are running late, please ring the school office to let them know.

At Haydn we are committed to ensuring that all children have excellent school attendance. Our school target this year is 97%. We understand that children need to be off school when they are ill but other than that, they need to be in school. Holidays should not be taken in term time and we will contact you if your child’s attendance falls below 90%.

READING, READING, READING

Anti-Bullying Week

Next week 10th – 14th November is Anti-Bullying Week and the theme is ‘Power for Good’. Giving and receiving respect from others is important because it helps us to feel safe and valued.

There are many great books to choose that can help children understand what bullying is and how children can learn strategies to overcome it.

Below are some examples of lovely books.

Peggy is an apologetic pigeon. She always assumes she’s in the wrong. Even when she’s the one getting bullied. But Joan, an older female seagull, gives her the necessary skills to stand up for herself. This hilarious tale from award-winning author Wendy Meddour contains an important message about the importance of being assertive.

https://www.booksfortopics.com/wp-content/uploads/today-im-strong-a-story-about-finding-your-inner-strength.jpg An uplifting and empowering picture book about finding your inner strength when school life gets tough, from the winner of ‘The Great British Bake Off’ and national treasure, Nadiya Hussain, beautifully illustrated by Ella Bailey.
