 A MESSAGE FROM MS PAULSON

Dear families, as we come to the end of the last week of the spring term, there is a real sense of celebration and achievement across the school. The past few days have truly showcased the incredible talent and creativity of our children and I could not be prouder of all they have accomplished. The week began with the Year 5’s performance of ‘Macbeth’, followed by Year 1 visiting the Space Centre, Year 2 going to White Post Farm and Year 4 children taking part in the ‘Great Orchestra Experiment’ at the Albert Hall. We held a whole school Eid Celebration Day on Wednesday where the children learned about why this festival is important to the Muslim community and finished the week with a whole school Easter assembly where the children helped to retell the Easter story. F2 and nursery children had a splendid time with their families showing off their beautiful bonnets in their Easter Parade. It was so lovely seeing so many of you there – it makes these experiences memorable for the children.

It has been a week where the arts and learning outside the classroom have truly shone, highlighting the rich experiences we offer.

YEAR 5 PERFORMANCE OF ‘MACBETH’

At Haydn, we are so proud to be an RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company) Associate School and last week the whole school enjoyed a week of Shakespeare from Year 1 to Year 6. This week saw a fabulous performance of ‘Macbeth’ from our Year 5 children who brought Shakespeare to life with confidence, expression and musical talent! Each and every pupil had their part to play and it was a joy to see the pleasure it gave them all to perform to an audience. I never cease to be impressed with the achievements of Haydn children! A big thank you to the Year 5 staff team who, without their hard work and dedication, the play couldn’t happen. So thank you to Mrs Crawford, Mrs Harris, Miss Williamson and of course, to the amazing Mrs Needham! Also, a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who came to support your talented children; you were a most appreciative audience.

YEAR 3 UKULELE CONCERT

On Thursday afternoon,  Year 3 children performed to their families in their ukulele concert. They performed music and songs including ‘Yellow Submarine’ by The Beatles and ‘Roar’ by Katie Perry. The children impressed everyone with their amazing performance under the musical direction of Mrs Cropley.

HAYDN FOREST SCHOOL

Our Forest School provision at Haydn continues to be a fantastic way for children to learn, explore and grow in the outdoors. Through hands-on experiences, pupils are encouraged to take safe risks, try new activities and develop important life skills such as confidence, independence and resilience.

During this half term, children have made the most of their time in the Blackwoods and Forest Garden, spotting the first signs of spring as flowers begin to bloom and brighter days return. Outdoor play has been a big highlight, with popular games like ‘Back to Base’, ‘Foxes and Hounds’, ‘Sardines’ and ‘Hide and Seek’, bringing lots of energy and laughter to each session. Even in the wet weather, pupils have embraced the experience - splashing in puddles, exploring the mud and enjoying the freedom to get a little messy!

Forest School sessions have also included a wide range of practical activities. Children have safely used tools such as hammers, nails, saws and palm drills, tried their hand at whittling, built dens, created in the mud kitchen and relaxed in the much-loved hammock. Creativity has flourished too, with pupils experimenting with chalk, charcoal and natural dyes. Our Nottingham City Council Health and Safety consultant, commented on his visit, “all pupils were actively enjoying the Forest School activities and in a safe manner”.

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and positive attitude our children show during Forest School. They continue to demonstrate excellent teamwork, curiosity and respect for the natural environment — making the most of every opportunity to learn beyond the classroom.
