Year 5 / 6 Netball Partnership - 5th December
As part of our partnership with Nottingham Girls High School, a group of Year 5 and 6 children travelled to the High School to practise their netball skills, as well as experience a full sized netball court! The session was run by staff at the the school and gave our pupils a first experience of netball. They learnt key skills and the basics of the game as well as making new friends and working together in unfamiliar teams. We're looking forward to our second session next week.
Year 5 Sporthall Athletics Final - Thursday 28th November
The team of Year 5 pupils represented Haydn again at an indoor sports hall athletic grand final competition held at Harvey Hadden Sports Village. The children participated in a range of athletic events including sprinting, hurdles, long jump and high jump. They were brilliant, completing their challenges and support each other throughout. The girls were super speedy, winning most of their running races! Overall the team finished 5th out of 7. What a super achievement! Huge congratulations to all the children who took part, we are super proud of you!
Yr 5 and 6 Wicketz Cricket- 25th November
We were delighted to invite the Wicketz Cricket into school. Wicketz is a cricket programme run by Nottingham County Cricket Club, who offer free softball cricket sessions around Nottingham. As well as cricket, these sessions focus on breaking down barriers, developing crucial life skills, creating stronger communities and enabling brighter futures for those taking part. It was fantastic to see the children getting involved, pushing themselves and working together as teams. All the children involved have also been invited to attend the free sessions outside of school.
Year 2 Cricket Festival - 21st November
We had a fantastic opportunity for some of our Year 2 children to go to Harvey Haddon to take part in a cricket festival. The festival will involved the children taking part in a range of cricket-based skills stations and fun games with the emphasis on having fun and being active. All the activities were delivered by staff from Notts County Cricket Club.. The children had a fantastic time and represented Haydn superbly.
Yr 6 Urban Hockey - 11th November
We were lucky enough to welcome 'Urban Hockey' into school for a one-off session. Urban Hockey is a fast moving, exciting playground sport which helps children of all ages to engage with PE. Based on the game of ice hockey, participants learn to stick handle, pass and shoot like professionals. Urban Hockey’s motto is “Be Part Of The Game!” and all the Year 6's had a fantastic time experiencing this strategic game with many transferable skills including passing and receiving, dodging opponents, spacial awareness and speed and agility to name but a few!
Young Ambassadors Conference - 7th November
On Thursday 7th November Miss Elson and 4 sports councillors attended a young sports ambassadors conference run by School Sport Nottingham. The children took part in workshops looking at delivering a Me Vs Me Challenge to other children in school as well as supporting children during playtimes. Isobel, Noble, Aliza and Lenny are looking forward to sharing all the new ideas with the sports council and becoming role models for the rest of the school, promoting sport and a healthy lifestyle.
Year 4 Me vs Me Challenge in School - 6th November
We have been delighted to invite School Sport Nottingham into school to deliver their 'Sporting Superstars' Challenge to both Year 4 classes. The challenge includes taking part in different events and recording their personal best scores. The children are then encouraged to practise these challenges both at home and in school, with the intention of improving their best scores in a 'Me vs Me' challenge when School Sport Nottingham returns for a second session. Gold and Silver wristbands are awarded to all children, with medals going to the children who improve their own scores by the most. Thanks to our Sports Ambassadors and older Sports Councillors who helped run the session.

Nottingham Schools FA Mixed Year 6 Forest Football Festival - 14th October
Huge congratulations to our team of footballers, who competed in the mixed Year 5/6 Forest Football Festival at the Forest Sports Zone. Over 23 city schools took part, with the team playing a series of 5 games in their group. Whilst they didn't proceed to the next round, they played really well and worked hard together as a team. Another school asked us to stay and play a friendly after the festival, which we won 2-1! Well done Team Haydn, we are very proud of you!
Year 5 Sports Hall Athletics Heats - 1st October
A team of Year 5 pupils represented Haydn at an indoor sports hall athletic competition held at Harvey Hadden Sports Village. The children participated in a range of athletic events including sprinting, hurdles, long jump and high jump. They successfully qualified from their heat into a final. Huge congratulations to all the children who took part. We are super proud of you!
Year 5 & 6 Relay Challenge - 24th September
A team of girls and boys, one each from both Year 5 and Year 6, represented Haydn at the second ever school games Relay Challenge at Harvey Haddon. All 4 teams had 30 minutes to complete as many 400m laps as they could. Every single team member was OUTSTANDING!!! Everyone tried exceptionally hard and ran their socks off. This year's teams didn't quite beat the total number of laps recorded, so our Haydn records still stand as : a girls' school record of 16 laps for the Year 5 girls and a boys' record of 17 laps set by the Year 6 boys (2023)
