Class Letters 2022-2023

Beaumanor Hall - A fantastic Victorian experience! Year 5 had a fab time being taught, washing clothes, dressing mannequins and ironing all in the Victorian way. This was followed by a tour of the original Victorian hall.

4H 2021-2022

Summer Term 2022 - 2nd Half Term

Welcome back to the last half term of Year 4!  We have a very busy half-term coming up including our Strings Concert, Sports Day and Arts Week.

We've come into the half-term as we mean to go on and enjoyed a great day at the Nottingham Open Tennis Tournament, all the children were impeccably behaved and it was so interesting to watch an actual tennis match in progress.  The activities in the afternoon were very fun and all the children participated eagerly and with great sportsmanship.

Summer Term 2022 - 1st Half Term

What a wonderful start to our summer term we are having and what great weather we are enjoying at the moment!

Our trip to Castleton was a huge success, we had an excitable but relatively calm journey on our coach to the peak district and arrived on time in glorious sunshine. We walked a LOT but the scenery was breathtaking and it was lovely to see a lot of lambs with their mums in the fields.

Year 4 will be visiting the Nottingham Tennis Centre after half term which will be really fun as we have been doing a lot of tennis in school.

Have a fantastic half term break and we look forward to welcoming you back for the final part of the year.

Castleton 2022 (more to follow)

Spring Term 2022

What a busy term this has been in year 4 including sports events, flower arranging, amazing dragon eye art, it's astounding we managed to fit any other academic work in!  We were also visited by the 'Flu Bug' in response to the fantastic posters we made about being vaccinated.

World book day was a great success, the children's costumes were wonderful and we really enjoyed learning a new story all about 'The Huey's'.

Making peasant bread was an experience, everyone got their hands dirty mixing and moulding the dough and learning to fry it on a hot plate.  It would've tasted lovely with the butter we churned earlier in the term.

We wish you all a fun filled and snow free Easter break. We are looking forward to seeing you in the Summer Term when we will begin our Castleton trip countdown.

Autumn Term 2

During the second half of our Autumn Term we have enjoyed our swimming sessions, it has been wonderful to see what strong swimmers we have in Year 4!

Our impromptu trip to watch School of Rock at the Royal Centre was such a treat, the show was fantastic and all the children had a great time, there was lots of singing and dancing from us!

We were all very excited to be able to go on our first trip out of school for some time, and what an interesting trip it was.  The children explored all the exhibits at the Derby Museum, the natural history section was particularly enjoyable, and seeing real Egyptian mummies was an amazing experience for us all!

Have a wonderful break over the Christmas holidays and we look forward to welcoming you back in the new year for the start of our Spring Term.

School of Rock - November 2021

Winter Wonderland - December 2021

Autumn Term 2021

We have settled in really well to Year 4. What a positive, happy start to the year!

So far, we have enjoyed;

  • finding out about life in Ancient Egypt in History lessons
  • investigating Sound in Science
  • writing and performing poetry inspired by Michael Rosen (who tweeted his compliments about our poems)
  • picking up our violins, violas and cellos and playing music together again

This half term, we are looking forward to going swimming in our classes, visiting The Derby Museum for fun and learning about Pharoahs, mummification and making Shabtis.

(We have the feeling it will be exciting just to go out of school on a coach together again with our packed lunches!)

Looking further into the future, we have booked our residential trip to Castleton Youth Hostel for May 2022. A parents' meeting will go ahead early in the New Year with all details.

WOW!!

I can 't believe that the Autumn term has already come to an end!

We have had an extremely busy but fun term.

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to both Ava and Mrs French, but we have gained Abbas and Ashley, who have been made to feel very welcome and are already very much amazing members of 3T.

The children have been so enthusiastic about all of our learning and I am so proud of each one of them.  They have embraced everything with a smile and have adjusted to the new 'normal' so well.  We have loved learning about The Romans, Rocks and Soil, Volcanoes, Sustainability and amongst so much else!  We have been getting very clever at applying fronted adverbials and speech to our writing, whilst in Maths we have learnt about decimals, different sorts of lines, reading scales and lots of time tables practise! (and lots of other things too!)

I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a very well deserved break!

There is no homework or spellings for the holiday, but the children are able to use Reading Eggs and Mathletics if they have an urge to do something!

I will be missing them all very much!

In January we will be joined by Mrs Mainmane as our new TA.

Can't wait to see you next year!!!!!!

Lots of Lots,

Miss Thieme

                                3T 2020 - 2021

Welcome to 3T

We have had a great start to year 3 !

Everyone has settled so well and I'm super proud of them all.

Each week I will add our spellings to the class page for our test on a Friday, the children also have a copy inside their reading diary.

Friday is our PE day so the children are going to be able to come to school in their PE kit for that day so we don't have extra bags in the classroom.

Spellings w/c 11.9.20

There are 2 different lists of spellings.  Please check your child's reading diary for which list of spelling they are expected to learn.

 Home Learning

Due to the recent school closures we have planned and prepared two weeks of lessons and resources to aid your child’s progress while away from school.  We have attached a  letter detailing relevant information about the home learning packs we have sent home and activities we will set over this period.

Each week we will attach a weekly plan and resources you will find planning  for Week 1 and Week 2 below.

You will also find the printed resources for the next two weeks in your child’s ‘Home Learning Pack’.

It is important to keep talking to your child and to stay active as a family during your time at home. If you are not already, you can start your day with a live 30 minute Joe Wicks P.E lesson, broadcast live from his YouTube channel .  It's a great way to start the day as a family.

Great Fire of London!

As part of our 'Welcome to NG5' topic, we studied The Great Fire of London. The children really threw themselves into the topic and enjoyed all aspects. We interviewed Samuel Pepys and designed our own Tudor style houses. To finish off the topic we lined the houses up and burned them. We listened to a story of the horrific event and even chanted London's Burning!

Blackwoods Trip

Year 2 had a fantastic start to the half term. We have been working on our topic 'Into the Woods' and we walked to Blackwoods for a wonderful afternoon full of exploration. We took part in different activities. We created our own hedgehogs using leaves collected and created bark rubbing pictures. We loved our mini beast hunt and worked together to unearth different insects in their micro-habitats. We didn't let the rain ruin our day!

Under the Sea

In connection to Sustainability week, Year 2 were given the opportunity to watch a film at Cineworld about the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the range of marine life that live there. Although there were some technical difficulties when we arrived, the children were amazing and so grown up. We really enjoyed the film, learning about jelly fish, sharks, sea horses and many more. Some parts did make us jump and laugh!

Haydn's Garden!

We are so privileged to have our garden in school and we now have a gardener who helps look after it. As part of sustainability week we went to visit our garden. We had a tour and explored the different types of fruit and vegetables. We asked some fantastic questions!

Friendship Friday

In the Autumn term, Haydn had 'Friendship Friday'. We loved having lots of circle time activities where we discussed this topic and what being a good friend looks like. We then created our own friendship rainbows where we wrote nice comments about our peers. It made us all feel happy and loved!

heartheartheart

Art and D.T

This half term we have learned many new skills and looked at different artists. We created our own clay hedgehogs based on the work of Ceramic artist Nick Mackman, sketched leaves and owls based on the botanist artist Claude Aubriet and create beautiful watercolours inspired by Joseph Turner. We combined all these elements to make a hedgehog house. The children did this totally independently!

Plants Rule!

We have had lots of fun learning about plants and in particular, Venus Fly Traps! We also planted our own beans! We hope they grow into a beanstalk...

Cricket

In the Autumn term Year 2 had a 6 week course of cricket with a trained professional. They really got stuck in and learned lots of new skills. We had another cricket professional visit us and talk to use about playing fair in the game. We created some beautiful diagrams of what playing fair looks like in the sport.

Welcome to 1R

❤️💛💚💙💜🖤

This half term our topic is

❄️Polar Regions❄️

We have been learning all about the coldest places on earth; The Arctic and The Antarctic!🌍❄️

We have learnt lots about the different types of animals that live in each, in particular, penguins and polar bears.🐧

We have watched lots of real life clips of penguins, and know all about how they look after their chicks.🐣

Did you know, the penguin daddy looks after the egg on his feet for 2 whole months while the mummy penguin goes hunting?🐟

He has to keep the egg very safe so it doesn't get too cold or crack.

We made our own penguin eggs and investigated how long we could keep them on our feet whilst waddling.

It was much harder that it looks!

Please check back for the latest news, key dates and photographs of what we have been up to!

Remembrance Day 2018  - 100 years

The children learnt all about why we wear poppies on remembrance day and some of us shared stories of our families who served in the wars. We enjoyed looking at the photographs some of the children brought in - thank you!

After watching a short animation showing how the battlefields changed after the war had finished, we painted our own poppy fields using watercolours and finger painting. The results were beautiful!
