Welcome to 1H!

We are halfway through Year 1 and the children continue to explore their curiosity on their quest for knowledge. On Mondays, we have our weekly spelling quiz, PE, PHSE and Computing. We also have singing with Mrs Needham on Wednesday mornings and the children are learning about families of instruments. 

Spring Term

In Literacy, we have developed our writing skills through exploring different books and poems. We have begun to use adjectives in our writing and expand basic sentences, as well as understand the concept of verbs and similies. Other texts we have explored have included; newspaper reports, features of letters, non-chronological reports and instructions.

In Maths, we have been practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We have used 'manipulatives' and 'arrays' to understand number operations of addition and multiplication, and we have begun to introduce fractions.

In Topic, we have learnt about the Polar Regions and the animals that inhabit them. We explored one of the seven wonders of the world; The Northern Lights and created beautiful art inspired by the colourful trails they leave in the sky.

We are currently learning about Space and have used handy mnemonics to remember the order of the planets in our solar system.
