To celebrate Chinese New Year, Year 6 enjoyed a painting session with Chinese teachers from the University of Nottingham Confucius Institute. The results were impressive.

Sustainability Week

During sustainability week, we had a visit from Severn Trent water where we learnt about the history of availability of drinking water and how we can work together to save water and use it responsibly. 

Macbeth

We have enjoyed reading another of Shakespeare’s plays “Macbeth” and worked in groups to write a scene from the play.  We then put them together for a class performance.

Anderson Shelters

As part of our World War II topic, we have been designing and making Anderson shelters in D&T

National Holocaust Centre Visit - 5.10.21

We enjoyed our visit to The National Holocaust Centre in Newark where we learnt all about life as a Jew in 1930s Berlin, Germany.  We were lucky enough to hear a first-hand account of what it was like to be evacuated from Germany to the UK on the Kindertransport.  We enjoyed going around the exhibit called ‘The Journey’ where we followed the experiences of a young Jewish boy called Leo.  We were able to visit a 1930s German house, school and street featuring shops.  We ended our visit placing a stone on a pile created to remember each of the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.

Welcome back!

Welcome to Year 6 it's great to have everyone back in school.  We have an exciting year planned starting off with a trip to the National Holocaust Museum in Newark as part of our World War II topic.  Our class novel this term is Emma Carroll's 'Letters from the Lighthouse'.  Other topics we will be studying this term will include Evolution in Science, Shakespeare's Macbeth, Garage Band in music, Beliefs in Action in RE, Being Me in PSHE, designing and making our own Anderson shelters in DT and continuing with our Spanish.  We will use this page to share photos of our time in year 6 - so please check the page regularly.

Bookworms 

Bookworms was set up to help make books more affordable for children all over the UK. Originating in Derbyshire, the first ‘Bookworm’ had to turn down events due to the diary being full of events or the events being too far away. They've launched a new look website to make it easier to find great value new and used books. There is also a guide to reading with and involving children in reading.

Week 17 Home Learning

We hope you have been enjoying the sunshine this week, what a change from last week !! This will be the last week of Wind in the Willows we hope you have enjoyed the characters and their adventures.

It is Week 13 of the Home Learning Programme and it goes without saying that we are missing you all very much. We are seeing some of you in school and hearing news from others by e mail and the Seesaw app. Please do get in touch if you haven't yet. We are trying to get to speak to you all as much as we can but if you do want to get in touch, please do in whatever way is best for you.

This week, we have put a Citizenship activity for you around the Black Lives Matter movement. If you have discussions, ideas and do research of your own, please share it with us.

Week 5 Home Learning

Move Crew

ukactiveKids and Nike have today launched Move Crew, a set of activity missions designed to help children unlock their 60 minutes of daily recommended activity. 

Each Monday, a Nike athlete will announce a new weekly theme and every morning at 8am, the new Move Mission will be released. Week one’s theme is “Power of the Team” and features UK sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, Grantham Primary School (a PE Quality Mark school), PE Lead Hanna Sapeta, 12-year-old sprinter Savannah McKenzie Morgan, and Nike trainer Joelle D’Fontaine.

4W 2019 - 2020

We have had a great first term in 4W ranging from creating and writing about our own dinosaurs to visiting the pantomime. We really enjoyed learning about the Ancient Egyptians and were fascinated by the mummy on our trip to Derby Museum. In maths, we are trying really hard to improve our speed and accurate recall of the times tables. What a great start !!

Project Earth

What a fantastic performance!!!! Year four were very professional and engaging in our performance of Project Earth. Thank you to all the parents who attended we are sure you loved it as much as us.

Paul Cookson Visit

The whole school had a great time joining in and laughing very loudly along with Paul Cookson who shared lots of his very funny poems with us. It was very interesting to learn about where his ideas come from. Year 4 had a particularly good time participating in writing workshops with Paul creating our own fantastic poems. A big thank you to Haydn P.T.A. who helped fund this fantastic day.

Welcome to 2M!

Weird and Wonderful Plants!

In Science we have been learning all about weird and wonderful plants.

We have become experts, we know what plants need to survive and how important they are in the food chain.

We have planted our very own magic beans in class and have been busy researching and finding facts about the deadly Venus Fly Trap plant!

We even have two Venus Fly Traps in class named Snappy and Happy!

Nonsense!

This term we have been having so much fun reading super silly nonsense poems.

We have learnt fabulous songs and poems written by Michael Rosen who we think is

hilarious, the poem ‘ Chocolate Cake’ is our favourite.

We have also learnt and performed some amazing poems from the book

‘The Booktime Book of Fantastic First Poems!'

We have been having lots of fun in Year 2 learning all about our local environment in or “Welcome to NG5“ topic. We have been busy learning all about different types of houses, studying maps of Sherwood and designing our own maps. The children have created some awesome structures of their homes for their homework project too. Take a look!

In literacy we have been reading lots of fabulous books based on letters, we have read "Dear Greenpeace" by Simon James which is all about a little girl called Sophie who finds a whale in her pond.

Earlier in the week, we had a mysterious creature of our own appear in the school garden and they left us some clues. After investigating, the children worked out it was an elephant called Edward that Mrs Mason has been feeding. He’s a very messy elephant and he left lots of nouns, proper nouns, verbs and adjectives in the garden for us to find. We had great fun finding them and using them to make silly sentences.

YEAR 1 2016-2017

SUMMER TERM

Welcome back to our Summer term in Year 1. I am very pleased to be back and have missed the children lots. We have changed our class to 1W and the children are doing brilliantly at remembering to call me Mrs Warren!

This half term we will be focusing on the topic Medieval Times. We have lots of exciting things coming up, including a medieval banquet, keep your eyes peeled for the letter coming out. After half term we will be focusing on the topic Animals and will provide more information for you nearer the time.

As the children are now in the last term in Year 1, we are continuing to develop their independence ready for Year 2! We really appreciate your continued support with our homework projects. The children love sharing their homework with the rest of the class. Thank you!

During the first half term, we have been learning lots of exciting things about Paddington Bear and Autumn. Do you know where Paddington Bear comes from?

After half  term, we will be learning all about Under the Sea and Pirates. Do you know any exciting facts about creatures under the sea?
