Year 6 Residential

The year 6s had an absolutely brilliant time on our end of year trip. It was well worth the wait and our children will have come back with memories that will last a life time. From the aquapark to the safari park, they were amazing. We were blown away with their behaviour and the way they got stuck into everything. Thanks for being so amazing and we really hope you loved every minute!

Summer Term

We made it!

A massive congratulations to all of year 6, they have worked so hard and made it through to the end of SATs week. We thought that after all of their hard work they deserved a trip to the park and then to get their leavers hoodies. We had a brilliant time at the park and it was so nice to see the children blow off some steam and enjoy themselves running around and playing games. We really are so proud of each and every one of them and cannot believe we are nearly at the last half term of primary school! Enjoy a break and congratulations Year 6!

Chinese New Year

We were lucky enough to have some teachers from The University of Nottingham Confucius Institute come in to school and talk to us about traditions around Chinese New Year. We enjoyed a calligraphy session based on the year of the rabbit.

Year 6 trip to the Holocaust Centre

The year 6 children represented Haydn so well on our trip to the Holocaust Centre. It was extremely informative and gave us all a lot to think about. We followed the journey of a young Jewish boy called Leo to understand how it would have felt to be Jewish in Germany during WW2. The visit was really important and the children learnt a lot from it.

The Great Haydn Bake Off 2022!

Year 6 did a spectacular job for our first ever bake off. We had so many amazing creations, we all left very very full at the end of the day. There was a wide variety of bakes created, we were so impressed with the creativity, design and taste of all the bakes! Well done year 6!

Colwick Park Trip September 2022

Year 6 had a fantastic trip to Colwick Park, we took part in lots of exciting activities that all focussed on team-building and facing our fears. The weather was on our side and we even got a chance to take a dip in the lake! The children behaved brilliantly and worked so well together.

Welcome to Year 6!

Year 6 have had a really positive start to the term and have settled into annexe life exceptionally well. We have started our WWII topic and the children have had their first basketball session with Mr Ward. On Friday 9th September, we went to Colwick Park where we participated in a variety of outdoor adventures including kayaking, orienteering and a 'High Ropes' obstacle course. Fun was most certainly had by all. What a great start to the year!

CLASS LETTERS - 5G - 2021 - 2022

Welcome to year 5!

We are so happy to have all of the Year 5 children back in school. They have already settled in so well to the new year and the new term. We are continuing to be cautious with our routines and the children are being brilliant at getting stuck in! They are working hard and are setting a fantastic example around the school. They have adapted so well to the new way of working and are being sensible and safe at school.

We are really excited to get on with a great year with so much to look forward to. Topics will include: forests, space, Ancient Greece, Shakespeare, Christianity, Wild thing art sculptures, night light DT projects, digital music, coding and so much more. We will continue to keep you up to date and for the most recent information please check your child's Microsoft Teams page where we post homework and information about what has been going on in school.

Fun at Woodthorpe Park

Food Technology trip to Green's Windmill

We have had an excellent day at the windmill. We learned all about where our food comes from and how flour is made. We made our own bread, toured the windmill and visited the science centre. It was a great trip out and we have some budding bakers in 5G!

RSC Workshops

As an associate RSC school we have been really luck to have a wide range of artists visit us in school to run workshops all arounf A Midsummer Night's Dream. We have written our own song, made matchbox spell books and taken part in amazing drama workshops. Take a look below at what we have been up to!

World Book Day 2022

Thank you for all of your effort in making amazing costumes this year, we had an excellent day full of lots of fun activities. In the morning we learnt all about Quentin Blake and how he illustrates a whole range of books. We made our own scary characters in his style and then wrote poems including portmanteau about our creations! It was so good to have a full class of children to enjoy this with. We also had our first whole school assembly and then spent the afternoon practising for our upcoming performance!

School of Rock The Musical

We had the pleasure of getting out of school and to the theatre to watch School of Rock The Musical. Thanks to our partnership with the RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company) we were given these tickets for free and had amazing seats. We all had a great time and the whole year were on their feet for the final song! #stickittotheman

Sustainability week 2021!

This year we looked into how we can live more sustainably as a class and thought about all the plastic we have laying around. We researched ideas, wrote instructions and then created new products out of old recycling. Have a look at the pictures below.

We also found out about Eunice Newton Foot who was a female scientist and discovered the harm greenhouse gasses can cause to our planet, she found this out in the 1800's but people didn't take her seriously as she was a woman! We learned all about her and used drama to re-tell her story.

Design and Technology

In Design and Technology, we have been set the task of creating a night light for Miss Bell's son Mylo. We have started the design process and figured out the electric circuits that we will need to power our devices.

Sherwood Forest Trip

We had an excellent time at Sherwood Forest, we spent the morning orienteering where the children had to find their way around a section of the woods all on their own! We then made dens in the afternoon which were tested with Mrs Cousins throwing water on to see if they were waterproof, luckily nearly all of them were! It was a great first trip and we look forward to many more!

Where the wild things are mod-roc models

We have been busy designing our own 'Wild Things' and putting them out in their natural environment, see some of the amazing models below.

Forests in the UK

During our Geography topic we researched different forests around the UK, the children made posters displaying all of the information that they discovered.

Happy New Year!

Tuesday 5th January

We do hope you had a safe and happy Christmas break. This is obviously not the start to the new year we would have wished for but - here we are again with home learning!

As we only found out at 8 pm last night that school would not be open to all children from today, we now have to start the process of home learning again whilst teaching the keyworker/vulnerable children in school.

As the whole school email informed parents, we are attempting to put work on Teams from tomorrow so please bear with us at this time. We have already put a spelling activity, PSHE and Science on and will put Literacy, Numeracy and History on this evening.

Thank you so much, as ever,  for your support. We hope all your families are keeping safe and well.
Please get in touch at any time to let us know how you're getting on and with any questions. We will be getting in touch with all families individually as soon as possible.

Take care and all best wishes
The year 4 team

It's Christmaaaaaaaaas!!!! And that means; making cards, calendars, Christmas dinner, party time and scarab beetles. Yes, we even linked Christmas to our Ancient Egypt topic to make decorative scarab beetle decorations.

Save the Children "Christmas Jumper Day" 2020. Thank you for all your generous donations this year.

4H End of year strings performance. We came together as a class orchestra to perform "Bullet proof" - a 00s hit by La Roux and the beautiful Christmas carol Silent Night. Every child in the class has achieved so much from playing their vioins, violas or cellos.

Ancient Egypt Design Technology Day - Making shadufs, building a 3D pyramid, making and enjoying an Egyptian feast of dates, figs, honey, hummus and fattoush salad.

Electrifying Science work! We built circuits and investigated switches to break the circuit.
