5G 2019 - 2020
Year 5 returning to school!
We are very excited to announce that next week we will be welcoming back year 5 to school. This will be in the same form as the other year groups. You will receive a letter informing you which bubble you have been put into. Each bubble will be in for a whole week and then at home for a whole week. Bubbles will be made up of 15 children and will be in the two year 5 classrooms, the staff looking after year 5 are: Mr Grimshaw, Mrs Owens, Ms Chambers, Mrs Needham, Miss Bell and Miss Coopland.
These places are not compulsory and we understand that every family need to decide what is right for them, please think carefully when you decide if you will be coming back or not.
Home learning will continue when you are on your week at home, the children at school will be learning the same content, it will just be delivered by a member of staff at school in a more traditional style of lesson.

We are getting into the world of YouTube!
Staff from Haydn will be recording themselves read some of their favourite books from a variety of locations. Click on the link below to see them all if you need some entertainment, cheering up or would just like to see our lovely faces. If you subscribe to our Youtube channel ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCj-5_SKBbPFvanvrgbC-eZw ) you will get notified each time we put up a new story.

See-Saw
Please try to access this site and leave comment, note or picture to show me you have been on. If you struggle, email me and I will help you get on.
See-saw is an online platform where I can set activities and children can respond. It is also a way to share what has been happening at home and they will be able to see what other children have been doing. I am testing this out and may introduce it to the rest of the school if it is useful. I have set up a class page, to access it either go to https://app.seesaw.me/#/login or download the seesaw app on iOS or Android, then when you click login, scan the QR code that your parents should have all received by email. When you have scanned the code, select your name. Under the activities tab there is a sample activity set up and you can also post pictures and notes about what you have been doing. Please go on and have a try, I can't wait to hear from you all!

Here is another resource to use for ideas if you want to supplement the class home learning packs.
SCHOOL CLOSURE
As the school is to be closed for the foreseeable future, we have prepared a Learning Pack for you to use with your child at home. We would suggest that children thrive on some structure and routine in their day and we have created a daily plan for Literacy, Maths, Topic and Well-being that you can build into your day. Having some structure to their day, will really help your child and should help you too if you need to spend time working from home. It is vitally important that your children stay active and keep learning, the work we will be sending home will help to keep your child on track with their learning from home.
We have loaded the first weeks’ worth of work onto the class page of the website, these can be found at: https://www.haydn.nottingham.sch.uk/class-pages/ on this page we will load a weekly PowerPoint document that will outline all work to be completed while school is closed. Any additional documents that will be required will be loaded to the same place. All documents will be loaded with answers at the end of the document, make sure not to reveal that until after your children have completed the work! On this PowerPoint we have included our email addresses for you to contact us should you need to and we will make weekly contact with you to see how you are getting on.

World Autism Awareness Week!
This year’s World Autism Awareness week was going to be celebrated in school from the 30th March- 5th April. We are still going to celebrate it, so our amazing teachers Mrs Crawford, Mrs Harris and Mr Grimshaw have read some lovely stories which celebrate our similarities and differences.

Week Beginning 30th March
Easter Holidays
You have all been amazing and are getting on so well with the work. Over the Easter holidays we want you to take a small step back and try to relax. We have set a series of activities for you to do each day to keep active and look after yourselves. Please find below all of the activities. Remember you can still access reading eggs, mathletics, maths frame, twinkl and if you find any other great websites do let me know about them and I will share with the rest of the class. Keep your eye on BBC iPlayer, they are showing a range of Shakespeare's plays including The Merchant of Venice!
We are posting out a copy of Street Child to each of you, this will be the base of a lot of your Literacy work. Please look after this book and bring it back to school with you when we re-open. We are also sending some seeds home, we would love you to plant these, take pictures and send them to us, along with any other exciting things that you have been up to.

Easter Holiday Activities
Class 5G 2019-2020
Welcome to your new class 5G! You have made a fantastic start to the year. So far we have learnt all about space, forces, Ancient Greece, forests, Christianity and lots more! The children have been working extremely hard and deserve the break over the Christmas holiday. Please keep on reading with your children and practising times tables with them at home. We have lots of lovely books in our classroom that the children are free to take home with them and there are loads of times tables apps available to make practising even easier. As always children have Mathletics and Reading Eggs accounts and all have their login details in their reading diaries.
Please record all reading in their diaries as they are checked in school every Monday.
Home work is set on Friday and due in the following Wednesday.
PE is on Wednesdays so please make sure their kits are in school. In January we will start ice skating. The children need to bring warm clothes with them to school to get changed into during lunch. Long trousers or jogging bottoms are suitable as well as a warm jumper, they can also bring gloves and a hat if they would like to.
I will carry on adding pictures of what we have been up to in school so keep checking for updates!

Spring Term
Our main topic this term will be The Tudors and Shakespeare. In Science, we will be studying the life cycles of animals and plants, including plant reproduction.
For the first half-term we will be going ice skating every Monday afternoon for 6 consecutive weeks; please don't forget a change of warm clothes! We recommend layers such as long sleeved tops, jumpers, jogging bottoms, hats, gloves and coats. It is better to send too much, than not enough. Ice skating will begin on the very first day back so please be prepared!
On Thursday 27th February, we will be going on our exciting residential trip to Stratford Upon Avon. This trip will include a visit to Shakespeare's birthplace, a walk around Stratford Upon Avon, a visit to the RSC Theatre to watch a production of The Boy in the Dress, a workshop with the RSC specifically tailored to The Merchant of Venice and a night in a local hostel. All meals are provided except for lunch on the first day. Please ensure we have received your permission slips and payment by February half-term. There will be an information evening with more details in January. Date/time TBC.
During the second half of the term the children will have plenty of time to learn all about Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice with the production taking place on Wednesday 1st April during the afternoon and evening (more details to follow).
RSC Workshops
Stratford-upon-Avon
Space Centre Trip
During the Autumn term we had an amazing trip to the space centre. We saw a live science show about rockets, an incredible show in the planetarium and visited all of the brilliant exhibitions around the centre. If you haven't been, it's worth a visit!
Haydn Garden
During sustainability week all the children had the chance to visit our new and improved garden. They got to go around and see what veg they could spot. As the year goes on they will have chance to collect the fruit of their labour.
CLASS 4W 2018-2019
Welcome To 4W
Welcome to 4W, we have made a fantastic start to the year settling in to our new class and routines. This term (Autumn 2) we will be learning about electricity in science, continuing to find out about the Ancient Egyptians and starting our swimming sessions on a Friday. We are looking forward to our trip to Derby Museum on the 21st November - we will share photographs of this on our class page.
Sound Fountain
We had a fantastic afternoon with Jove's mum learning about sound waves, and hertz watching the sound fountain.
Year 4 Ancient Egypt Homework
We had a lovely afternoon playing the board games we had designed with a focus on Ancient Egypt. Our games were all really different and exciting to play.
Derby Museum Trip
4W had a great time exploring all the different rooms and artefacts around the museum in the morning, after lunch we met Aziza the wife of an Egyptian advisor to the Pharaoh. She taught us about her life in Egypt. We also had a go at mummifying one of the class. We made our own Shabti's to go in the pyramid with us. We all found the real mummy fascinating. What a great day !!
Chinese New Year
We had a great time meeting our visitors from China. They taught us all about Chinese New Year and the different ways it is celebrated. We especially loved creating our ink panda pictures.
Castleton
We had a fantastic residential trip to Castleton in March. We did lots of activities in preparation for our new topic on Rivers. Gem panning was very popular along with Fossil hunting. However the class agreed our favourite activity was the River walk, we were very wet by the end of it but had a great time with our friends.
Year 4 Class Letters
3S Panthers Day at Nottingham Ice Arena
On the 28th November, 3W visited the local Gurdwara on Haydn Road. We had a fantastic time learning about Sikhism, visiting the prayer room and even getting to try some sweets!
Here are some of our diary entries from when Mount Vesuvius erupted. The whole class worked so hard on this piece of work, some are proudly hanging in our classroom and the rest are displayed in the school hall. Come in and have a look!

Roman Day!
In Science, we have been learning all about light and dark. Whilst we had some lovely sunny weather, we drew around shadows that we could find outside! We now know how and why shadows are formed.
Whilst learning about instructions, we followed a recipe to make rocky road! We then wrote our own set of instructions on how to make it. Can you remember how to make it?
17th October
We have had such an amazing first half term in Year 3! In literacy, we have been retelling Boudicca's story, writing a diary entry as a citizen of Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius erupted, created our own stories and even created our own set of instructions when we made rocky road! What a lot of learning we have been doing!
In maths, we have been busy practising column addition, column subtraction, practising our times tables, looking at properties of 3D shapes and learning about the meaning of the word inverse. Can you remember what it means?

Welcome to 3W!
Welcome to year 3 
! What an exciting year we are going to have! We are so pleased and proud how well all of the children have settled into the juniors. All of the children seem to have done a lot of growing up over the summer, especially with their confidence!
This first half term is based all around the Rotten Romans. We really appreciate all of the continued support sending in your Roman themed pieces of homework. We have had some fantastic pieces so far! We are very excited to celebrate Roman Day on the 19th October.
