RE

RE at Haydn Primary School provokes challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about Gods, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. We educate our pupils, including SEND, through studying religions and world views with a clearly planned out curriculum that equips them with the skills to develop their own ideas, values and identity. Learning is accessible to all and is adapted to meet the needs of the children. Teaching of RE engages pupils in discussions, dialogues and debate which enables them to make their own conclusions and share their viewpoint with others clearly. Our children feel empowered to participate positively in our diverse society by reflecting on the impact of religions and worldviews on contemporary life. RE at Haydn makes a key contribution to enabling pupils to consider British Values, including tolerance and respect for people who hold different faiths and worldviews.

Religious Education at Haydn Primary aims to help our children:

  • develop an awareness of spiritual and moral issues in life experiences;
  • develop knowledge and understanding of the six major religions in the UK and worldviews of those who follow these religions and those who do not;
  • develop an understanding of what it means to be committed to a religious tradition;
  • develop an understanding of religious traditions and to appreciate the cultural differences in Britain and the world today;
  • develop investigative and research skills to enable them to make reasoned judgements about religious issues;
  • have respect for other people's views and to celebrate diversity in society.

Please be aware that schools have to teach RE but parents can withdraw their children for all or part of the lessons.

Policy

At Haydn we study the Nottinghamshire SACRE Agreed Syllabus in class.

During the year we also have special celebration days when we all learn about a religious celebration on the same day. Here are some examples of our celebration days.

Whole School Eid Day 2024.

On 25th April we celebrated Eid as a whole school. During the week we all learnt about the importance of the month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid al-fitr. Everybody made an Eid Day decoration.

On the day, parent members of our Muslim community generously gave their time to decorate the hall and dining hall. They also gave the staff a meal and the children some sweets! The kitchen served a delicious Eid day meal and we had an assembly where some children showed off their fantastic skills quoting from the Holy Qur'an. We were amazed and very proud!

Whole School Easter Day 2024

On March 28th We celebrated our Whole School Easter Day. All the children learnt about an aspect of the Christian Easter story and did some art work or role play linked to the story. The following day we had a whole school assembly and celebrated all that we had learnt.
