Letter Sound of the Week

Letter Sound of the week

Let's go on a sound hunt!

Go on a hunt around your house for different things beginning with the t sound.  How many can you find? Practise listening to and saying the t sound in each word - t, tap. Where can you hear the t sound in each word?

Here's a video from Geraldine the Giraffe. She's looking for things beginning with t too. She might give you some more ideas!

Geraldine the Giraffe learns /t/ sound

Geraldine the Giraffe is rather cheeky!
  • Here’s a game you could play with the letter 't 'and another letter - maybe the letter your name begins with? If your name begins with t, choose a different letter. Make 2 baskets or tubs, each labelled with 1 of the letters. Go on a hunt finding things that begin with either letter but make sure you put your object in the right basket!
  • Each time you find something, practise writing that letter or even the word as an extra challenge! I’m sure your grown-up will help you.
  • Set yourself the challenge of writing your name every day this week! Remember your name begins with a capital letter and all the rest are small, lower case letters. Think carefully where you need to start each letter.
Let's practise some of the letter sounds we have been learning this year!

Phase 1 Phonics Letter Sounds (Set 1)

Now let's play a game using these four letter sounds - s,a,t,p. Ask your grown-up to collect objects together that begin with these four sounds and mix them up. See if you can sort them into 4 groups that begin with the same letter sound.
